CHAT GPT, the natural language processing tool!
ChatGPT is a generative, pre-trained transformer that uses natural language processing driven by Artifical Intelligence. It allows the user to have human-like conversations with the chatbot. The language model can answer questions and assist users in composing emails, essays, and code. The tool engages in conversational text interactions with users by using artificial intelligence, and these exchanges are designed to make the user feel as natural as chatting with a real person.
ChatGPT was created by OpenAI, an AI and research company. The company launched ChatGPT on Nov. 30, 2022. The tool is currently in the research phase and is available in both free and paid versions.
The tool is easy to use and access. To use the ChatGPT:
Open chat.OpenAi.com and register for an account. If you are new, create an account. Registered users can login with the OpenAI credentials.
Once you have logged into your account, read through the terms and disclosures for ChatGPT and click on Next.
Click Done when you reach the last tab of the terms and disclosures.
You are all set to get started and interact with the language model. You can type in any of your ChatGPT prompts in the text bar at the bottom of the page and press enter to submit your questions. The chatbot will then generate the answer text to your prompts.
ChatGPT can generate responses to prompts well enough to become an important tool for content generation, write and fix code, make calculations, help you compile your resume, translate information, and much more. User Imagination is the limit when it comes to the uses of the chatbot.
One of the most popular applications of ChatGPT is in conversational AI, like customer service, virtual assistants, tutoring activities, document assessment, consulting, research, and other conversational interfaces.
Another application of ChatGPT is in content generation, such as creating news articles, summaries, essays, and product descriptions. It can be fine-tuned on specific text genres and styles, making it possible to produce high-quality, and on-topic content.
It is also great at text classification, such as topic grouping, fake news detection. The model can be fine-tuned on labeled text data to accurately categorize text into different classes and segments. This can be used in various industries such as finance, marketing, and politics, among others, to monitor, scrutinize, and understand public opinions and trends.
Just like any new technology, ChatGPT comes with both pros and cons. ChatGPT has a large capacity, with more than 175 billion parameters, and has been fine-tuned on a broad spectrum of Internet text sources and data, making it capable of handling a wide range of topics and generating coherent, informative, and congruent responses.
ChatGPT is not all-powerful yet, but they can and do reject inappropriate requests. The AI assistant is programmed to distinguish inappropriate requests to prevent the generation of unsafe content. This includes questions that violate someone’s rights, are offensive, discriminatory, and involve illegal activities. The ChatGPT model can also challenge incorrect premises, answer follow-up questions, and even admit mistakes when you point them out.
There are several examples of the potential applications, great uses and advantages of ChatGPT in the academic field. Some of these are:
Automated grading and feedback
Writing and language coaching
ChatGPT comes with its own set of challenges too.
It lacks the ability for expression, the output does not contain expressions, only words. Unlike humans, ChatGPT summarizes the topic but does not offer a unique insight into the topic. We humans create through knowledge, but also through our personal experience and subjective perceptions.
ChatGPT Is too detailed and comprehensive. Sometimes, such as in a medical context, a direct answer is better than a comprehensive one. ChatGPT is too literal, sometimes this makes the AI overlook the actual topic.
Over-reliance on ChatGPT can reduce user’s critical thinking and problem-solving skills. One of the challenges of these models, especially in educational settings, are:
Accuracy and reliability
Lack of creativity
Privacy and security
Considering the pros and cons of the ChatGPT, it is clear that there are many issues with ChatGPT that make it unfit for unsupervised content generation. Users should apply detailed prompts in order to generate content that is better than the default content it tends to output.
However, ChatGPT has a wide range of applications in the field of natural language processing, including conversational AI, content generation, text classification, information curation, and narrative completion. Their large capacity and fine-tuning capabilities make it possible to build high-quality language-based applications for various industries and purposes. These AI systems are here to stay, so optimize their potential, and try to get the best out of them.
