Creating a WORD CLOUD - Tableau

Tableau :

Tableau is a tool that helps users analyze and visualize the data to make business decisions. It's used to analyze large amounts of data and allows users to create different types of charts, graphs, dashboards and stories to help users understand the trends and patterns . This article is about WORD CLOUD which is popular among the many types of charts in Tableau.

WORD CLOUD :

A Word Cloud is also known as a Text Cloud or Tag Cloud . In real life, we would have seen Word Cloud chart in so many places. This chart is used to analyze the large set of text data.

Word Cloud is visualization of text data as Image represents. Word Cloud is powerful way to visualize the high frequently text in your dataset.

Steps to Create a Word Cloud in Tableau :

Lets go through the steps to create Word Cloud in Tableau using the 'Sample-Superstore.xls' dataset, focusing on ' City ' field. Find the city which has the highest Sales from Sample Superstore data set. The dataset referred from Kaggle.

1. Connect To Dataset :

Open Tableau and connect to the Sample -Superstore.xls dataset and drag orders ,people and Returns to the Canvas in Tableau to load the data .

Here city field has text data .

2. Create Work Sheet and add your Data:

   Open new Work sheet and drag City which contains all the City Name details to the ' Text ' field on the Marks card. All the city name will be displayed in the work sheet .

   3. Change the colors of Data :

   Drag dimensions City to 'Colors' on the Marks Card . All the city names will get updated with different colors .

   4. Set Size to Text Data :

   Now all the city names has the different color , we need to update the city names with Size of Sales.

   Drag Sales in to 'Size ' field on the Marks Card . By default it gives the Tree Map .

   5 . Create Word Cloud :

   Change the Mark type from 'Automatic' to 'Text' .

   

   
   

   Here , the larger size of 'New York City ' indicates it has the highest frequency ,reflecting its significant sales in the dataset.

   Conclusion :

   In Conclusion , word cloud serve as a visually engaging and effective tool for summarizing and analyzing text data. By highlighting the most frequently occurring words, they allow us to quickly identify key themes and insights from large volumes of text. whether used in business, education, or personal projects word clouds provide a simple yet powerful way to distill complex information into easily understandable visual Summaries.
