Sepsis:
As we all know Sepsis is the life threatening disease, in which the body respond improperly to an infection.
There are three stages of Sepsis;
Stage 1 : SIRS
Stage 2:Severe Sepsis
Stage 3:Septic Shock
So in this blog we are analyzing the third stage of sepsis which is Septic Shock.
Septic Shock:
Septic Shock is the last and most severe stage of sepsis ,which occurs when your immune system has an extreme reaction to an infection. This causes dangerously low blood pressure. The treatment includes antibiotic, oxygen and medication.
Here we are going to analyze the Sepsis dataset for the septic shock patients.
Septic Shock Criteria:
The most important septic shock criteria's;
SBP < 90 (Systolic Blood Pressure)
MAP <60 (Mean Arterial Pressure)
Respiratory rate >=22
Lactate > 2
Based on the above criteria in the figure - 1, shows the total number of septic shock patients,
Figure1
In the Cohort of septic shock patients totaling 296. Where 107 males represented while 189 female accounted for signifying distinct biological , hormonal or health care seeking behavior disparities between male and female individuals
The Figure 2 shows the the age category by gender;
The butterfly chart shows the variations in the incidence of septic shock among different age groups and genders. Some categories demonstrate lower counts, while others show higher incidences.
The importance of associated risk factors is the occurrence of septic shock. This breakdown by age and gender ranging per group , demonstrates the diverse impact of septic shock across various age -gender combinations.
In the age group of 60 there are more female patients of 35 count , whereas there are only 21 counts of male patients in the age group of 60.
The Figure 3 shows the analysis of septic shock patients with abnormal values;
In the above visualization, we can see the abnormal values are highlighted with red color for the septic shock patients.
Identifying septic shock patients trigger hours based on the physiological parameters like MAP, Lactate, Resp rate, SBP, temp, heart rate, glucose and WBC. We can understand the trend and relationships between these parameters and septic shock occurrence. All these parameters are interconnected. On one end the oxygen in the body is reducing along with blood pressure dropping to danger levels, body temp fluctuation of mere 95F to 99F is critical and to top it all Lactate levels greater than 2-4.
Based on the observed analysis ,we understand what is septic shock and the criteria's of the septic shock patients.
Conclusion
Septic shock is a severe condition. Be prepared by knowing the signs and symptoms of sepsis and septic shock. If you develop any of the symptoms, call 911 or get to the emergency room ASAP. While septic shock can be a scary diagnosis, immediate treatment is important and could save your life. If you have experienced septic shock, make sure to see your healthcare provider regularly for follow-up visits. They may also be able to provide you with additional resources to help you in your recovery.
